OHSU continues steady growth in new fiscal year

December 13, 2012

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has earned $26 million through October, $6.7 million ahead of the projected pace for the first four months of the fiscal year, according to a report at the quarterly OHSU Board of Directors meeting today.

The improvement over projections resulted from stronger activity in patient care. The case mix index, a measure of patient acuity, was 5 percent ahead of budget while adjusted outpatient admissions were up 11 percent over last fiscal year. Consolidated net worth is up $40 million, which reflects both the $26 million of operating income and positive investment returns.

The OHSU Board of Directors also welcomed two new members today: Ken Allen and Amy Tykeson. Allen has been the Oregon AFSCME executive director since 1995. He is a member of the board of Inside Oregon Enterprises and is a former Port of Portland commissioner.

Tykeson is the president and chief executive officer of BendBroadband. She is past president of the Oregon Cable Telecommunications Association Board, and continues to serve on that board as well as those of Economic Development for Central Oregon, Associated Oregon Industries and the Oregon Chapter of the Nature Conservancy.
