ODS Embraces Healthcare Transformation, Changes Name to Moda Health

May 6, 2013

May 06, 2013--In a bold move signaling its broad embrace of healthcare transformation and heightened consumer expectations, Pacific Northwest health benefits pioneer ODS today announced that it is changing its name to Moda Health.

Founded in Oregon in 1955, ODS has quietly built a diverse, dynamic portfolio of health insurance and business products and services. Now with annual revenues of almost $2 billion, it is the largest privately held company in the state.

"The name ODS served us well for 57 years, but today our reach extends far beyond dental, and far beyond Oregon," said Robert G. Gootee, CEO of Moda Health. "We provide medical, dental, pharmacy and vision plans for more than 1.6 million people from Ashland to Anchorage. Our new name better reflects who we are and what we offer in the communities we serve."

The name Moda Health is more than a spruced-up moniker. It's an exciting new identity designed to showcase the company's passion for helping people get well sooner and live well longer. Moda is derived from the Latin term "modus," meaning "the way."

"Our company is changing more rapidly than ever," said William Johnson, MD, MBA, FACS, president of Moda Health. "Our new identity helps us tell the powerful and compelling story that we are a new kind of health company, one bridging the value gap, reaching out to patients, to healthcare organizations and to employers. Moda Health designs, implements and builds upon collaborative quality-driven solutions...and it does so throughout the communities we serve."
