WHO: The Native American Youth and Family Center
WHAT: A Celebration of Native American Heritage Month - 10th Annual Gala and Live Auction
WHERE: Portland Art Museum
WHEN: Friday, November 15th, 2013, 5:30 - 9:00 PM
WHY: Proclamations from the city, state and White House announce November is Native American Heritage Month. Portland's Native American community at more than 40,000 strong is the 9th largest urban Indian population in the United States. The Native American Youth and Family Center hosts the largest celebration of this month in the state of Oregon each year.
NAYA has had an incredible year to cap off an amazing decade of service to Portland's Native American community. NAYA recently became one of only three nationwide recipients of a grant from the First Nations Development Institute and Kresge Foundation's joint funding opportunity. "The project aims to help organizations that work with some of the estimated 78 percent of American Indians and Alaska Natives who live off reservations or away from tribal villages, and who reflect some of the most disproportionately low social and economic standards in the urban areas in which they reside." - See more at: firstnations.org
NAYA Family Center has served the urban Indian population of Portland for 39 years with a variety of culturally-specific services designed to increase the health, education and assets of Portland's diverse and growing Native American community. Our annual Gala and Live Auction is an opportunity to bring together some of the leaders in government, business, foundations and non-profits in Portland to demonstrate our strength and present our future plans, all while raising money to support the services we offer to our clients.
This year's gala is sold out and we are expecting over 550 guests.
