After the GOP has relentlessly battled to take away our reproductive rights, reports on the prognosis of Graham-Cassidy-Heller are pretty bleak. NARAL members across the country have been pushing back against the dangerous Graham-Cassidy-Heller bill in full force, and we'll keep fighting. We’ve been organizing and mobilizing in communities across the country to stand up against these attacks on our human rights, and hold anti-choice politicians accountable. That's because the latest version of Graham-Cassidy-Heller does nothing more than feed the anti-choice GOP’s perverse obsession with punishing and controlling women. In order to make this bill more palatable for extreme politicians who are completely out of step with their constituents, the anti-choice GOP made changes to the bill that will hurt even more people, disproportionately women. In a full-force showing of their anti-choice agenda, the bill effectively eliminates abortion coverage, even in the private insurance market. It also allows states to exempt insurers from essential coverage requirements that are vital to women’s reproductive freedom, such as no-copay birth control and the maternity and newborn care that women need to keep themselves and their babies healthy.
If the GOP truly cared about the lives of kids, women, and families, they wouldn’t be pushing a bill that could force millions to lose healthcare coverage and leave them quite literally to die without the lifesaving care they need. They would fight for legislation to improve access to care, and trust women to make our own decisions about our health, recognizing we know what’s best for our bodies, families, and lives better than any politician. The hypocrisy is astounding.
