NAMI stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI Multnomah's mission is to champion justice, dignity, and respect for all people affected by mental illness. Through education, support and advocacy, NAMI Multnomah pursues its goals to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illness, effect positive changes in the mental health system, and increase the public and professional understanding of mental illness. The Emergency Department Diversion (EDD) works specifically with the family of youth who are accessing mental health services through the Emergency Department. The program is designed to ensure that people living with mental health conditions (“peers”) and their families or other supporters gain knowledge and understanding of mental health-related topics including mental health conditions, the system of care, various treatment options, and community-based resources and services. The EDD Family Partner will assist peers and/or their families to recognize and utilize their strengths and natural supports in the community, to develop safety and recovery plans, and overcome barriers to accessing care.
