NAHU Supports Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employees Act

The Senate passed the bill amending ACA’s definition of employers with 51 to 100 employees as large employers
October 5, 2015

Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) applauds the Senate for taking action to pass H.R. 1624 through unanimous consent, allowing states to have greater flexibility in determining their own small group market instead of relying on a single national standard. This is a huge win for states and small groups.

The PACE Act repeals the mandated change of definition for small employers from groups of up to 50 employees to include groups of up to 100 employees. This change was mandated as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The combination of the new compliance requirements and the regulations for the new group would have caused dramatic changes to the insurance policies of medium-sized employers.

“NAHU has made the passage of this legislation a top priority. We commend the House of Representatives and the Senate for supporting the passage of this bill. We now urge President Obama to take action quickly before businesses lose their current health plans and millions of Americans lose their health coverage,” explained Janet Trautwein, CEO of NAHU.

“This is a perfect example of what can happen when members of Congress partner with the agent and broker community to promote and protect insurance consumers, employers and providers alike. NAHU looks forward to working further with Congress toward the betterment of America’s healthcare system.”
