April 17, 2013 -- Media are invited as the Board of County Commissioners opens a health clinic and pharmacy on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m.

The Multnomah County Commissioners will open a primary care health clinic and pharmacy  to serve people in southeast Portland on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 2 p.m.

In the past decade, the number of homeless and highly impoverished people living in southeast Portland has risen while there are few safety net primary care clinics in the area. In addition, nearly one-third of area residents lack health insurance altogether.

The Southeast Health Center, 3653 S.E. 34th, will increase the Health Department’s capacity to serve the most vulnerable residents. County staff will offer primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, laboratory and other support services in addition to the existing dental clinic.

Media is welcome to join Chair Jeff Cogen, Commissioners Deborah Kafoury and Judy Shiprack, Health Department Director Lillian Shirley, and key partners from Kaiser Permanente, CareOregon and Providence Health & Services as well as community members including Asian Health & Service Center staff and a performance by cultural dancers.
