The League of Oregon Cities’ (LOC) Board of Directors has selected Mike Cully, chief executive officer of the San Diego North Economic Development Council (SD
NEDC), as the organization’s new executive director. Cully was chosen through a national recruitment conducted by The MercerGroup of Atlanta, and will start work with LOC on December 11.
“Mike will successfully engage the League’s 241 member cities and its partner associations,” said LOC President Denny Doyle, the mayor of Beaverton. “He is a visionary leader with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to advocating for cities. During the interview process, his energy and focusreally connected with League staff and the board, and he was the clear choice to lead this organization. The League will thrive for many years under Mike’s guidance.”
Prior to his work with SDNEDC, Cully was part of the global leadership team for car2go N.A., a division of Daimler AG. In this role, he launched the world’s first all-electric car sharing fleet and led operations for the company in the United States while based
in Portland.Before that, he served as president and chief executive officer for the chambers of commerce in San Diego East County and Visalia, Calif.
Cully’s past experience also includes: working for more than a decade as an on-air television reporter/anchor, including a two-year stint at KOBI-TV in Medford; serving as the public relations lead for Kaiser Permanente in California’s Central Valley; and leading the marketing team for the Fresno County Workforce Investment Board. He and his family currently reside in Wilsonville.

months, we will introduce a new, high-touch approach to service, emphasizing the unique qualities of the communities we represent. This is a new era for the League, and I am incredibly excited to be a part of the growth.”
Cully received his MBA from San Diego State University in 2011. He replaces Mike McCauley, who retired in August after serving 11 years as the League’s director.
