September 11, 2013

September 9, 2013 – Dr. Joanne V. St Louis will join Medical Teams International (MTI) effective September 23, 2013 as the organization’s new Health Program Manager in Haiti. Dr. St Louis will oversee MTI’s community health programs and work closely with national and community health authorities in Haiti.   “Dr. St Louis comes to MTI with over a decade of public health leadership experience in Haiti,” says Mike Wenrick, MTI’s Director of Latin America and Caribbean Programs. “Through Dr. St Louis’s leadership, we are confident that MTI will deepen our impact and expand our reach in order to serve Haitians who desperately need support.”   Medical Teams International has provided health care and development assistance in Haiti beyond the organization’s initial disaster response efforts following the 2010 earthquake in that country. Current activities include capacity building efforts at Centre Medical Beraca, a hospital in northwest Haiti. Dr. St Louis will specifically lead MTI’s Crochu Community Health Program in northwest Haiti which is focused on improving maternal and newborn health and addressing cholera and other diarrheal diseases.   Dr. St Louis graduated from the State School of Medicine in Haiti and from the University of Henry Pointcare of Nancy in France. As a medical doctor specialized in public health and health promotion, Dr. St Louis has worked closely with the Ministry of Health of Haiti working with organizations including Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and Plan Haiti. She most recently served as Health Program Manager for World Concern Haiti.   For more information on Medical Teams International and their work in Haiti, go to www.medicalteams.org.
