Madras Medical Group welcomes new physician

January 9, 2012

January 9, 2012 -- Madras Medical Group announces the addition of its newest family physician, Dr. Matthew Foster.  He began his practice at MMG in November of 2011 and has already been actively involved in his role.

Foster comes to the Madras community with a wealth of knowledge and a passion for rural health care. He is earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Oregon University with three independent full degrees: Mathematics, English Literature (Traditional Option), and Biochemistry/Chemistry.

Foster graduated Cum Laude from Georgetown University's Medical School..  During medical school, Foster decided that he wanted to do a rural family medicine rotation in Madras.  This is when his relationship with MMG and the Madras community first began.

"My family medicine advisor knew Dr. Gary Plant, who agreed to bring me on as a visiting medical student," Foster said.  "During my time here, I learned what it was to become personable with patients, to look at a patient as a person instead of a lab value or x-ray. It was the first time I was given any responsibility and frankly, asked to think.  It was rewarding to participate in all sorts of procedures and facets of care."

After leaving the rotation, Foster found himself comparing his future rotations to the one he had in Madras.  "I enjoyed the community immensely," he shares.  He finished his residency at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, Ca.   Intrigued by the Madras community, he decided that he wanted to return to Madras to practice medicine with the providers at MMG."

At MMG, not only was the quality of medical education high, but the physicians were of so high caliber that they could have worked anywhere.  Their commitment was to medicine and to the community, not to some big city job with a huge salary."

Since his arrival to MMG, Foster has begun accepting new patients and has been involved with several surgical procedures and cesarean sections at Mountain View Hospital.  Once a month, he does a long shift in Quincy, California practicing emergency medicine.
