Local Cancer Centers and Community Non-Profits Unite to Support National Cancer Survivors Day

May 6, 2013

May 6, 2013 – National Cancer Survivors Day® is Sunday, June 2, 2013. Cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends, and healthcare professionals will join to show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful, productive and even inspiring. This day provides an opportunity for survivors to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way.

Food and refreshments will be provided along with creative, health and wellness activities for all ages including: exercise demonstrations, nutritional smoothie samples, henna tattoos, art activities, beading cancer bracelets, design your own cape or tiara, photo booth keepsakes to take home and FREE gift basket giveaways. Special guest, Robert Lisac will share his cancer journey and music by Trailblazers DJ O.G. ONE. There is no cost to attend and FREE parking will be provided in the Rose Quarter parking garages.  It is also accessible by bus and MAX.

“It is a privilege to share in the joy and camaraderie of this day and honor survivors who face each day with courage and determination and serve as an inspiration to live each day to the fullest,” said Angie Henderson, NCSD coordinator for Compass Oncology.  “Survivors may face many complex needs and challenges after a cancer diagnosis. In light of these difficulties, our community continues to focus on the importance of education and awareness, access to local resources and developing survivorship programs committed to helping improve the quality of life for anyone who has been touched by cancer.”

This year’s local National Cancer Survivors Day celebration of life will be held in our community at:

WHERE: The Rose Quarter, 1 N Center Court, Portland, Ore.

WHEN: Sunday, June 2nd from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
