January 30, 2017 (Portland, Ore.) Legacy Health physicians, patients, staff and leaders will officially kick off American Heart Month by keeping treadmills moving nonstop for 24 hours in the main lobbies of Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center February 1 -- February 2, 2017.
This year's event will be the fourth time Legacy's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has hosted the event in celebration of staying active to prevent heart disease and also to raise funds for Legacy's cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services.
Legacy Good Samaritan Featured Walkers
- Starting Line -- Dr. Kenneth LeClerc, medical director of Legacy Cardiac Rehabilitation and Patrick Puopolo, a cardiac rehab patient who has found a new sense of purpose after a close call will kick off the 24 hour event at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1.
- Finish Line -- Stacey Rice, a cardiac rehab patient who has transformed her overall health after suffering a heart attack and undergoing a double bypass will cross the finish line at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2nd.
Legacy Meridian Park Featured Walkers
- Starting Line -- Mark Goodwin, a pulmonary rehab patient and successfully integrated his new health plan into everyday life, will kick off the 24 hour event at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1.
- Finish Line -- Nettie Allen, a patient who received a stent and successfully completed the cardiac rehab program will cross the finish line at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2nd.
"Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States yet it is preventable and controllable, said Dr. LeClerc. "Anyone can start improving their heart health by making simple changes such as going for a walk on your lunch break, parking further away from the front door or taking the stairs. It is our hope Walk Around the Clock inspires people to think about what can be done to improve their own heart health."
