Legacy Health announced today Trent Green, former senior vice president of Planning and Business Development and chief strategy officer of Legacy Health and president of Legacy Medical Group, has been selected as the new president of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and Unity Center for Behavioral Health effective December 24, 2017. Green has served as interim president of the regional flagship for surgical and critical care medicine since July 2017.
"Legacy Emanuel and Unity Center are complex medical environments with many specialists engaged in life-saving work every day," said Mike Newcomb, D.O., chief operating officer, Legacy Health. "Trent's breadth of knowledge, big-picture perspective, established local and regional relationships and innovative approach to leadership will allow him to embrace that complexity and help Emanuel thrive into the future."
Green began his career at Legacy Health in 2008 where he has served as senior vice president and chief strategy officer for the last nine years. During this time, he has provided leadership for such transformational initiatives such as the Legacy-Go Health Urgent Care venture; the Legacy Salmon Creek -- Kaiser Permanente contract; the affiliation with Silverton Health; the expansion and focus of our Community Health Fund, and most recently, our joint venture with PacificSource Health Plans.
In addition to his strategy and business development role, Green has provided leadership to Legacy Medical Group for the past four years. As president of Legacy Medical Group, Green more than doubled the size of the group while also expanding the number of specialties and geographies.
"As two flagship hospitals for critical and behavioral health care in our region, Legacy Emanuel and Unity Center occupy a unique position in our region," said Green. "I look forward to working with Emanuel and Unity Center's leaders, providers and staff to grow our specialized services, continue developing new care delivery models and working with partners to address specific needs for the people in our region."
Green came to Legacy Health after spending nearly a decade in management consulting. It was his consulting experience that first introduced him to Legacy Health having completed strategic planning for the system, Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Meridian Park Medical Centers before joining the organization.
"Legacy Emanuel has a longstanding tradition of serving and partnering with its community," continued Dr. Newcomb. "From supporting our non-profit partners with basic needs to enhancing the livability of the surrounding neighborhood, Legacy Emanuel has never wavered from its commitment to the community it has called home for over 100 years. Trent has a deep understanding and respect for this commitment and looks forward to strengthening Emanuel's deep roots in the community."
Green earned a master's degree in business administration and a master's in health care administration from the University of Minnesota. He earned a bachelor's in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. He served as an administrative fellow with the Mayo Clinic.
Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, founded in 1912, plays a vital role in the Pacific Northwest. The Unity Center for Behavioral Health is a 24/7 comprehensive psychiatric emergency care and inpatient facility for people facing a mental health crisis. Opened in January of 2017, Unity Center has the first emergency room in the Pacific Northwest designed specifically to deliver immediate psychiatric care and a path to recovery for people experiencing a mental health crisis.
