Kreidler joins other agencies that protect consumers from fraud

March 8, 2017

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler joins other organizations in Washington state that support National Consumer Protection Week, March 5-11. The annual campaign, celebrating 19 years, educates consumers about their rights and resources to help them use their money wisely.

Kreidler's office joins the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Office of the Attorney General, Federal Trade Commission, Secretary of State Charities Division, Department of Financial Institutions, Department of Labor & Industries, and Utilities and Transportation Commission to help provide consumers with tools and resources. All of these agencies protect the public from scams and educate consumers about their rights.

“Our No. 1 mission is to protect consumers,” said Kreidler. “Consumers can contact us by phone or online if they have questions, complaints about their insurance, or want to report suspected fraud.”

In 2016, Kreidler’s office processed 7,915 consumer complaints and helped recover $11.3 million for consumers. Kreidler’s staff can help consumers with:

  • Medicare questions or choices
  • Filing a complaint against an insurance company or professional
  • Answering insurance questions online or by phone at 1-800-562-6900
  • Finding out if an insurance company has complaints
