PORTLAND, OR – March 29, 2016 – Internationally recognized pediatric eating disorder treatment facility Kartini Clinic today announced the second in its new series of instructive webinars on pediatric eating disorder treatment produced in partnership with ReelDx, according to Kartini Clinic CEO Morgan O’Toole.
This webinar, which will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, will be 30 minutes in length and can be accessed by medical professionals, students and parents at this link: https://meded.reeldx.com/cases/710
It focuses on an 11-year-old boy with anorexia nervosa, who initially presented with many features of classic- to early-onset anorexia nervosa, including a sudden change in eating behavior, precipitated by a voice in his head that instructed him to "only drink water and exercise."
The webinar will outline the medical history, physical exam, diagnosis and treatment of the patient and will be conducted by a panel of experts, including Kartini Clinic founder and chief medical officer Julie O’Toole, MD, MPH CEDS.
“Boys get anorexia nervosa too, and weight loss in childhood is not normal for males or females, regardless of their starting point,” Dr. O’Toole said. “Boys with this condition may not express a desire to be thin, but may instead express a focus on ‘having a six pack’ or being ‘very fit.’”
This case study is the second of approximately 20 which will be hosted by ReelDx, a cloud-based, HIPAA compliant, for providers, patients and families. The videos will make vivid the many ways in which eating disorders present, arming providers and parents with knowledge to recognize and take appropriate action for eating disorders in children. Archived webinars can be found at http://reeldx.com/webinars.
