Kaiser Permanente Northwest Launches 'Real Reviews' Online Physician Rating Site

Provider is first Oregon physician group to share ratings of its doctors

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente Northwest is now publishing online patient ratings of its more than 1,300 physicians, making it the first Oregon physician group, and one of only a few providers nationwide, to share this information with consumers. Its new site, Kaiser Permanente Real Reviews, can be found at http://kp.org/doctorreviews/nw.

The new resource is designed to provide transparency to members and prospective members as they seek information about physicians online.

"We know patients have choices, and often turn to the Internet for information about health care and physicians," said Imelda Dacones, MD, CEO and executive medical director of Northwest Permanente, Kaiser Permanente's physician group. "We want to give them the most thorough and accurate picture possible as they make important decisions about which providers they'll choose. We have used Press Ganey reviews in our practice for years to improve our care, and now we think it is time we shared them openly with our patients."

Many consumer rating sites are based on only a few reviews, and can provide an incomplete picture of a physician's performance. The Kaiser Permanente physician ratings are based on answers numerous patients provide in direct response to an independent after-visit survey by Press Ganey, the nation's leading provider of patient satisfaction surveys. Surveys are sent weekly to a random sample of patients following their medical visits with primary care, specialty care, mental health, urgent care and emergency medicine providers.

Consumers will be able to see each physician's overall rating (based on a five-star system), as well as comments shared on the surveys.

"I want my patients to feel confident they're getting the best possible care when they step into my office," said Jane Drummond, MD, a Kaiser Permanente Northwest internist. "Sharing reviews is a way of helping to establish that trust from the very beginning, which is incredibly valuable in building a positive doctor-patient relationship."

The website will also feature provider biographies and information about specialties, training and certifications. More information about Real Reviews is available in this fact sheet: http://doctorreviews-northwest.kaiserpermanente.org/about-reviews.
