Jackson Care Connect Names Matthew Hough, MD, Medical Director

April 30, 2014

Pediatrician Matt Hough, MD, has joined Jackson Care Connect as medical director. Jackson Care Connect is one of the Coordinated Care Organizations for Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members in Jackson County.

In his new role, Dr. Hough will be the liaison between the health provider community and Jackson Care Connect to develop programs aimed at achieving the Oregon Health Plan’s three main goals:

  • Better health outcomes
  • Better patient experiences
  • More effective use of resources

One of Dr. Hough’s goals is to improve dental care for children from low-income households. In a survey covering Coos, Curry, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Lane counties, 70 percent of children from lower income families in grades 1 through 3 had rampant tooth decay.

This information recently was revealed in a community health assessment conducted by the three local Coordinated Care Organizations: Jackson Care Connect, AllCare and Primary Health of Josephine County.

In addition to his pediatrics practice, Dr. Hough is the managing partner and medical director at Southern Oregon Pediatrics in Medford. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University in Providence, RI, and his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dr. Hough has additional training and experience in medical informatics, the gathering and analyzing of data pertaining to health care. “Informatics will provide us with the data we need to determine if we are successful with our programs,” he says.

Prior to joining Southern Oregon Pediatrics, Dr. Hough and his wife, Mary Hough, M.D., practiced pediatrics at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in New Mexico.
