Hospital executive to oversee region

April 22, 2015

Rand O’Leary, chief administrative officer of PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, will take on additional interim leadership roles as John Hill, head of PeaceHealth’s Oregon West Network, plans to depart on May 5, PeaceHealth announced Monday.

The announcement comes after a string of leadership changes at PeaceHealth, a Catholic-affiliated, nonprofit health care system. Those changes included the departure of Hill, who had led the Oregon West Network for three years.

PeaceHealth is based in Vancouver, Wash., and has hospitals, medical groups and labs in Alaska, Washington and Oregon.

O’Leary joined PeaceHealth last year, after holding leadership positions at several other hospitals including the 401-bed Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Mich., and at Borgess Medical Center, a 425-bed hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich.

As the chief administrator at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, O’Leary leads operations and is accountable for the administration, financial health and management of Sacred Heart.

O’Leary will continue those responsibilities; in addition, six Oregon West Network executives will now report to him, including Tim Herrmann, chief administrative officer at PeaceHealth Cottage Grove; Rick Yecny chief administrative officer at PeaceHealth Peace Harbor; and Kris Kitz, vice president strategy, innovation and development.

“Since arriving at PeaceHealth, Rand has earned the trust and confidence of leaders, physicians, caregivers and the board in the Oregon West Network,” Beth O’Brien, PeaceHealth chief operating officer, said in an email distributed within PeaceHealth on Monday.

“I’m thrilled that we have a person with Rand’s leadership capability and experience to serve in this role,” she said. “His strength will allow us to take the time we need to evaluate the network structure.”

O’Leary will report directly to O’Brien.

O’Leary said he was privileged and honored that O’Brien and PeaceHealth have “placed their trust in me, and in this team.”

“We will carry on the great work that’s been started, which ultimately is to serve our communities, our patients and their families. We have been blessed with the strong leaders we need to carry this work forward. We have a talented and dedicated medical staff, and inspiring caregivers who are devoted to our healing mission. I am highly confident in the direction and future of PeaceHealth,” O’Leary said.

PeaceHealth is the dominant health care provider in Lane County and employs about 5,900 full- and part-time workers here.

In addition to Hill’s departure, Alan Yordy, PeaceHealth’s longtime president and chief mission officer, announced in December he plans to retire on June 30.

Two leaders at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver announced plans to leave this month; and PeaceHealth chief financial officer Kevin Walstrom recently announced plans to leave on May 7.
