Health Share of Oregon seeks Photovoice Contractor

To support its 2016 Community Health Improvement Plan, Health Share seeks to broaden awareness of community experiences and health challenges through participatory photography
May 18, 2016

(Portland, OR) – Health Share of Oregon, the state’s largest coordinated care organization (CCO) serving more than 240,000 Oregon Health Plan members, is conducting a Photovoice project as a means of authentically engaging the Tri-County communities and broadening awareness of community members’ lived experiences, health challenges and community strengths.

Photovoice is an approach to amplify the voices of individuals who may otherwise be unheard, build community connectivity, and share reflections through photography and stories. “These photographs and stories will add a new layer of how Health Share understands their members and their experiences beyond just looking at data,” said Michael Anderson-Nathe, Health Share’s Chief Equity and Engagement Officer. “Another way to look at this is that these pictures, and the stories that go with them, are data with a soul.”

The project will support Health Share’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHP) and include up to ten participants in each county; Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington County.

Health Share is seeking a Photovoice consultant who will be responsible for the design, recruitment and implementation of the project through December 2016. The consultant must have strong existing community relationships, experience with participatory photography, be able to partner with community-based organization in the Tri-Counties, and share the findings with a variety of stakeholders.

Interested facilitators or consultants can view the official job announcement online or learn more at healthshareoregon.org/Photovoice.

Community members who are interested in participating in the Photovoice project should contact Health Share’s Community Engagement Program Manager, Rebecca Naga, by emailing [email protected].
