FamilyCare Health agreed to extend its contract with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) through January 2018. This decision will provide more time to ensure appropriate care coordination and continuity for members and providers. The OHA will begin transitioning members in the tri-county region to Health Share of Oregon, and FamilyCare will close at the end of January. Health Share coverage will begin February 1, 2018 for these members.
"Health Share staff have been working closely with health plan partners and OHA to ensure this is a smooth transition for those who will become Health Share's newest members," said Janet Meyer, Chief Executive Officer for Health Share. "I also want to stress that this is a small and close-knit community, and many of us have worked together with FamilyCare employees over the years and call each other friends. FamilyCare employees have dedicated their careers to helping others, and we are coordinating with all our partners on reemployment efforts."
Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members will not lose coverage due to this transition. The OHP benefit package is the same for all coordinated care organizations, and members and providers should keep all previously scheduled appointments. Health Share will honor prior-authorizations and out of network primary care relationships for a 90 day transition period (through April 2018). Prior-authorizations for behavioral health services will be honored for a minimum of 90 days with potential extension to ensure appropriate care coordination and continuity.
New Health Share members should expect a welcome packet from Health Share in February. The packet will have all the information they need to access care and services. Health Share is also in the process of setting up a phone line staffed specifically to answer questions for these new members.
Health Share has the largest OHP provider network in Oregon, including health plans like Providence, Kaiser Permanente, CareOregon, and Tuality. Health Share's provider network has capacity to serve all OHP members in the tri-county area.
Currently, more than 80 percent of FamilyCare members already see a primary care provider that contracts with Health Share. There should be no disruption in primary care for those members. Health Share's mental health and substance use network also has adequate capacity to serve all OHP members in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties. That said, Health Share will continue to evaluate the changing needs of its behavioral health network based on the needs of new members.
"Health Share works with our community to connect OHP members with the care and services they need to be healthy," Meyer said. "Through this transition, we will not lose sight of our ultimate vision of a healthy community for all."
