Governor Brown Appoints Clyde Saiki to Top Administrative Post

August 11, 2015

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kate Brown announced today that she appointed Clyde Saiki as the state's Chief Operating Officer and Director of the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), effective September 1, 2015. The Department of Administrative Services operates as the central administrative agency for Oregon state government, providing management oversight, technical support, and administrative support.

“This is a critical position on my leadership team,” Governor Brown said. “With nearly three decades of experience and a demonstrated commitment to professional excellence, I am confident Clyde will provide strong, stable leadership for the agencies that serve the people of Oregon."

Saiki has served as Deputy Director at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) since January 11, 2010.  Prior to ODOT, Clyde spent 23 years at the Department of Human Services (DHS) where he held a number of different leadership positions in Human Resources, Facilities, Contracts, and the agency’s Volunteer Program. He also served as the department’s Chief Administrative Officer and spent his last four years at DHS as the Deputy Director of Operations.

Clyde currently serves as a member of the Public Employees Benefits Board. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University.

Interim DAS Director George Naughton will resume his duties as the Chief Financial Officer at DAS on Sept. 1.

"I am very grateful to George for stepping into the interim role and ensuring continuity of services and support," Governor Brown said. "His leadership has been invaluable to my administration."

Saiki's appointment as DAS Director is the first in a series of announcements Governor Brown will make over the next several weeks about staffing and programmatic changes.

"The end of every legislative session is usually a time of transition, staff turnover, and retirements. This session is no exception," Governor Brown said. "These changes, many of which were anticipated, afford me the flexibility to assess and restructure my team to make state government more accountable, equitable, and responsive to the needs of Oregon's working families and small businesses."
