(Salem, OR) — Governor Kate Brown will announce on Thursday three additional strategies for the executive branch to cut spending and reduce overhead costs in state government.
The cost-containment actions are in response to the $1.6 billion budget deficit the Legislature is facing for the next biennium.
This follows Executive Order 17-07 that Governor Brown announced last week, directing the state government to temporarily freeze hiring, reduce travel expenses, and optimize facility costs.
At Thursday’s press conference, Governor Brown will sign two executive orders to address state employee compensation bargaining and collect outstanding debt owed to the state. Governor Brown will also announce a plan to stabilize the cost of the Public Employees Retirement System.
