Giant Crane to Fly a Kia Soul Over PeaceHealth Southwest to Help Rehab Patients

March 27, 2018
Kia Soul donated by Dick Hannah Dealerships

A giant crane will hoist a Kia Soul from the north parking lot at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical to its new home in the hospital's Dr. Benjamin H. McGough Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28. The Kia will be a useful tool in helping patients learn to successfully work through mobility challenges.

"Re-learning how to enter and exit a vehicle is important for our rehabilitation patients' safety and independence after returning home," said Conny Miller, Manager of Rehabilitation Services at PeaceHealth Southwest. "We are very grateful to the Dick Hannah Kia dealership for gifting this vehicle to the hospital."

Moving the vehicle to its new location will require the Kia to be lifted completely over the top of the top of the Medical Center from north to south before the Kia makes its final home in the McGough Rehabilitation Center on the third floor of the Mother Joseph building.

The PeaceHealth Southwest Foundation recently finished a $6 million fundraising campaign to create a new state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation unit. The McGough Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to open in late summer.

The public and news media are welcome to view the lift. Free parking is available in PeaceHealth Southwest's 92nd Ave. garage.
