The Lund Report emerged to fill a vacuum in health care coverage in the state. No one else covers the business of health like we do, with a focus on enterprise stories that dive deep and spread wide. We go far beyond press releases and far beyond the obvious. We’ve got our eye on the money, for example, with our extensive coverage of Medicaid, which is the second biggest budget item in the general fund.
We also track health care policy and try to hold health care institutions and agencies accountable.
Your money will not be wasted. Good journalism, so important in these times, takes time, skill and knowledge. That’s what we’re offering -- not quick clicks. We want to keep you informed about health care. It affects everyone, and the system is a mess.
The United States spends more than any other industrialized country on health care -- nearly 20 percent of gross domestic product or more than $3 trillion a year -- but is on the bottom of the heap when it comes to life expectancy.
Clearly, we can do better. That’s what our coverage is all about -- shining a light on a sector that needs scrutiny.
We’ve slimmed down our expenses, moving out of our offices in the Pearl. In October, we will move into an office in the Lloyd Center District. It’s a good spot for us in a more affordable and accessible area. We’ll also be able to have our board meetings there and conduct occasional interviews while keeping up with the necessary administrative work needed to keep us afloat.
With your support, we'll be able to increase our coverage by hiring a full-time news reporter. Jessica Floum, who had been on our staff for nearly a year, moved recently to California to pursue other passions.
