VANCOUVER, Wash., Jan. 30, 2018 - The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington has been awarded a total of $20,000 in grant funding from Legacy Health System. One $10,000 grant will help fund the clinic's specialty care referral program. The other $10,000 will support the immunization program for children and adults.
The specialty referral program provides free care for low-income, uninsured Clark County residents with specialty care needs. Patients are screened by care coordinators at the Free Clinic. If they qualify, patients can access donated specialty care and laboratory and hospital services. The Free Clinic served more than 450 specialty referral patients in 2017.
In 2017, the Free Clinic's immunization program served more than 870 uninsured children and adults in Southwest Washington. The program helps save patients' lives and protects others in schools and businesses by limiting the spread of infectious diseases.
"Legacy's ongoing funding is key to our success," says Barbe West, executive director of the Free Clinic. "Through the specialty referral and immunization programs, volunteers provide essential care to improve health and enhance the quality of life for our patients."
