FamilyCare, Inc. Receives Award for Leadership in Health Care

Project Access Now Recognizes Plan for Connecting Portland’s Vulnerable Citizens to Care
May 1, 2014

FamilyCare, Inc. was recognized Tuesday night for its leadership in providing health care to disadvantaged citizens at the 5th Annual Bridges to Health Care celebration sponsored by Project Access Now.  The award was presented to Jeff Heatherington, FamilyCare’s Founder, President and CEO, who acknowledged the outstanding work by the entire community, including Project Access Now to connect the uninsured and underinsured to the health care they need and deserve.

“We are honored to be recognized,” Heatherington said during brief remarks.  “Access to adequate health care is a critical factor in enabling people to be productive members of our communities. This is foundational to FamilyCare’s mission and our commitment to work with our community partners, such as Project Access Now in delivering health care to many of our most vulnerable citizens.”

Founded 30 years ago, FamilyCare’s mission is to connect Oregonians eligible for Medicaid and Medicare benefits to personal health care services including fully integrated mental, physical and dental care services. FamilyCare was the first Oregon insurer to integrate mental and physical health into its benefit plans and today is the second largest Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) in the state.  FamilyCare operates in Clackamas, Clatsop, Morrow, Multnomah, Umatilla and Washington counties, helping more than 100,000 members get access to available Medicare and Medicaid benefits and services.

“As Oregon’s first CCO in the metro area, FamilyCare has been instrumental in helping to improve health outcomes in our unserved communities,” said Linda Nilsen Solares, MPA, and Executive Director at Project Access Now.  “We look forward to continuing to partner with FamilyCare as we all work to deliver against the promise of healthcare transformation in the state of Oregon.”
