FamilyCare Health Donating $2 Million Dollars To Portland Organizations

FamilyCare Health is donating $2 million dollars to 14 Portland based community organizations totaling 17 community programs equaling $1.6 million dollars. In addition, they will be contributing to four community groups in Lebanon, OR totaling $400,000. The donations are being sent April 17. 

“The coronavirus epidemic has presented all of us with unique challenges that will continue for some time. Our recovery from this virus depends on the strength of the many community organizations that are serving our most vulnerable population” said Dr. Rob Richardson, Board Chair of FamilyCare Health. 

When asked about the range of donations, Jeff Heatherington, President of FamilyCare Health said, “The donations are from $10,000 to $300,000. They include several food banks, schools, mental health programs, minority student programs, and community daycares.”

He noted that the Board was unanimous in their support. Dr. Richardson stated, “For 35 years, FamilyCare Health served over one million Oregonians on the Oregon Health Plan until January 2018. Since that time we shifted our Mission to ‘Building Healthy Communities’ through both FamilyCare Health and our foundation. To date we have donated over $10 million dollars to organizations in the state to improve the health of its citizens.”

Thursday, April 16, the Portland based Heatherington Foundation for Innovation and Education in Health Care along with FamilyCare Health will be donating to four community groups in Lebanon, totaling $400,000. This donation is part of a $2 million dollar contribution to community based organizations in Portland and Lebanon. 

Dr. Rob Richardson, Chair of the FamilyCare Board stated, “Lebanon has a special place in our hearts. This community opened it’s doors to help bring the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific to Lebanon. The College was founded in Lebanon in 2011, and thrives here today” Dr. Richardson added, “The coronavirus epidemic has presented all of us with unique challenges that will continue for some time. Our recovery from this virus depends on the strength of the community organizations that are serving our most vulnerable population. It is important we provide help where we can.” 

When asked about the range of donations, Jeff Heatherington, President of the Heatherington Foundation and FamilyCare said, “The Lebanon donations are from $10,000 to $300,000. Lebanon recipients include Boys & Girls Club, Soup Kitchen, Be Undivided and the Lebanon Community School District. These organizations will be using the dollars for Kids Help, Child Care, Food, Backpack Program for Schools, and School access for internet.
