FamilyCare Health Donates $2 million to the Unity Center

August 25, 2015

Portland – FamilyCare Health announced it has donated $2 million to Legacy Hospital’s Unity Center for Behavioral Health, a new psychiatric emergency facility for people with acute psychiatric crises along with an inpatient facility for adolescents and adults.

The Unity Center, based on a successful program in California’s Alameda County, will be specifically designed to stabilize individuals in mental health emergencies and link them to community resources for on-going treatment. It will also consolidate behavioral in-patient beds from Adventist Health, Legacy Health, Kaiser Permanents, and OHSU.

“We know that traditional emergency departments are not equipped to provide all the services for people in crisis,” says Jeff Heatherington, President of FamilyCare. “The Unity Center is an innovative approach to addressing this long standing concern. It also represents an important collaboration among hospital systems and community organizations to work together to serve the special needs of this population.”

“This donation represents FamilyCare’s continued investment in improving the health of its members and communities across the region,“ says Heatherington.
