SALEM — Dr. Nancy Boutin, a Salem radiation oncologist, has been awarded Marion-Polk County Medical Society’s prestigious President’s Achievement Award.

The President’s Achievement Award recognizes doctors who have accomplished a noble deed in their lifetime. As a 22-year veteran of the Salem medical community, Boutin was instrumental in starting and pioneering the Palliative Care program at Salem Health, which focuses on improving comfort and quality of life for patients who are facing life threatening or chronic illness.

“This is a thrill and an honor to have received this award,” said Boutin. “Many of us have dedicated time and resources on creating a better medical community in Salem for both health care workers and for patients.”

Dr. Boutin came to Salem from a faculty position at Oregon Health and Science University. Her work in Salem includes being the president of the Marion-Polk County Medical Society from 2000 to 2002. Boutin used her time on the board to help improve the camaraderie and working relationship among local physicians. She also wrote lead articles for medical society’s award winning publication ChartNotes and compiled and edited ChartNotes stories into two bound volumes.

“We have so many truly remarkable and dedicated physicians in our community who constantly find ways to enrich the health care system,” said Jan Buffa, PhD, chief executive officer of WVP Health Authority.  “The recognition for Dr. Boutin’s work is deserving and long over-due.”

Boutin is a member of WVP Health Authority (WVP), a 500 member-plus association of independent physicians committed to providing high level care to the patients in Marion and Polk counties.

As part of her award, $1,000 donation was given to the charity of her choice and she was recently recognized by the society at a membership dinner.
