Douglas County CCO Community Advisory Council to host March 12 public meeting

Progress on the 2014 Community Health Improvement Plan will be discussed
March 5, 2015

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Umpqua Health Alliance's Community Advisory Council (CAC) is hosting an open meeting to the public the second week of March to discuss progress on the 2014 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which was released last June.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Cow Creek Tribe Government Office at 2371 NE Stephens St. in Roseburg.

"We've made significant progress on the Community Health Improvement Plan in the first six months and are excited to provide an update on our efforts," said Paul Morgan, Chair of the Umpqua Health Alliance CAC. "This meeting will allow us to bring our community up to speed and gather feedback on how we can continue working together to improve the health of Douglas County."

The 2014 CHIP identified five general focus areas, which are access, addictions, mental health, parents and children, and healthy lifestyles. These key health issues emerged as priorities from the 2013 Douglas County Community Health Assessment, focus groups, surveys and various meetings that the CAC conducted in collaboration with several community organizations.

One initiative that was implemented in 2014 was Kick Start Douglas County (KSDC), a community wellness collaboration that sponsors events to promote exercise and healthy living during the summer months and beyond. KSDC was created to promote activities that support healthy lifestyles, which is one of five focus areas. Organizers plan to host it again this year.

The 2014 CHIP for Douglas County meets requirements from the Oregon Health Authority and Public Health Accreditation. To review the full Community Health Improvement Plan, visit www.umpquahealthalliance.org, call 541-464-6291 or stop by any Douglas County library.
