WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23, Oregon Assistant Attorney General David Hart will testify before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on Oregon’s 2015 investigation and settlement of the powerful opioid, Subsys. Oregon was the first governmental entity in the country to settle with the pharmaceutical company, Insys, over allegations that the company promoted Subsys for off-label uses, and targeted doctors to prescribe the opioid. The Oregon Department of Justice, under the leadership of David Hart, settled with Insys for $1.1 million to resolve allegations the company incorrectly promoted the drug.
“I am pleased that Senator Wyden has invited my office to testify before Congress about our work combatting pharmaceutical fraud and opioid abuse. Oregon has been a recognized leader in pursuing drug companies that do not play by the rules. Subsys is a powerful narcotic that has only been approved for a very narrow use—and it is unconscionable that they promoted the drug in Oregon for other uses. Assistant Attorney General David Hart has been an asset for our state in monitoring opioid marketing, and I know he will have a lot of insight to share with Congress,” said Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum.
