Distinguished Healthcare Leader Joins Komen’s Fight to Save Lives

Susan G. Komen Oregon and SW Washington, the region’s largest breast cancer charity, today announced that healthcare leader Margaret Allee will direct its programmatic efforts to save lives and end breast cancer forever across the region. Allee will become Director of Programs on April 28, 2014.    Allee’s appointment is aligned with Komen’s resolve to increase its impact by enhancing innovation,  focusing on measurable results, and advocating for a more robust response to breast cancer region wide.  Despite significant progress in recent years, the needs around breast cancer remain great. Every week in  Oregon and SW Washington, 71 women and men are diagnosed with breast cancer, and 10 die.    “Margaret Allee is the right leader with the right skills at the right time for Komen,” said Thomas Bruner,  CEO of Susan G. Komen Oregon and SW Washington. “Her intellect, experience and heart will help us  to become even stronger, smarter and more effective at what we do.”    Allee is a nurse, attorney, ethicist, educator, and published author with extensive experience in  healthcare, law and the insurance industry. She has held positions in direct patient care, management  and administration – serving in healthcare leadership positions for Legacy Health System, Oregon Health  & Science University and Providence Health and Services.    Allee has a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Chamberlain College of Nursing, is an attorney with  a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College, and holds a Master  of Science (MS) in Business Management from Marylhurst University.    Allee is also an ethicist with an extensive background in organizational consulting, and is an Adjunct  Professor at Concordia University, Marylhurst University and DeVry University, and an Instructor at  Clackamas Community College. Her numerous volunteer roles include having served as Board  President of the Kidney Foundation of Oregon and Washington.    At Komen, Allee will lead all aspects of Komen’s programming, including: educating the public about  breast cancer, reducing risk of the disease, detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages, supporting  survivors through treatment and beyond, and fueling scientists and researchers to find the cures.         About Susan G.
