January 14, 2012 -- CareOregon’s board of directors named Patrick Curran as its new chief executive officer on January 11, 2013.  Curran has served as interim CEO for the past month, following the retirement of David Ford.

Curran has been with CareOregon since 2003, holding a variety of positions over the years, including Provider Services Director, Medicare Director and, most recently, Senior Director of Business Strategy and Development.

“Pat’s experience and capabilities, coupled with his relationships and knowledge of the Oregon health landscape, make him an excellent choice,” says Bart McMullan, board chairman. “We have confidence in the future, with Pat at the helm.”

Known for his creative approach to health care, Curran conceived of CareOregon’s innovative Care Support and Systems Innovation (CSSI) in 2006. Since its inception, CSSI has made it possible for providers, hospitals and clinics to kick start 238 delivery system improvement programs that enhance care not only for Medicaid recipients, but for patients all over Oregon.

Most recently, Curran led efforts to create Coordinated Care Organizations in southern, coastal and northern Oregon.

Curran has worked in health care management over the past 25 years in Oregon and California. He has particular expertise in contracting, payment methods, risk models, and regulatory affairs as well as innovative program and payment methodologies.
