“Reaching this goal could change what the word cancer means for future generations. Our children and our grandchildren may not have to live with the fear of cancer the way we have.
“With the investment of $1 billion, the Knight Institute will be able to attract the leading researchers in the world to Oregon. Their research has the potential to save millions of lives. Can Oregon end cancer?”
Courtney was among the first public officials to support OHSU’s fundraising effort. In the 2014 session, the Oregon Legislature helped kick-start the effort by approving $198 million in bond financing for the construction of the proposed cancer research facilities on OHSU’s south waterfront campus.
