July 9, 2012 — Three years and nearly 1.5 million work hours after breaking ground, major construction on Kaiser Permanente Westside   Center is now complete.

The 126-bed hospital is targeted to open in August 2013.

For Kaiser Permanente leaders, Westside Medical Center represents a new generation of hospitals. “We’ve taken everything we’ve learned about creating a place of health and healing and put it into the Westside Medical Center,” said Andrew McCulloch, president, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan of the Northwest. “We’ll have cutting-edge technology, such as robotic surgery for orthopedic patients, to go along with our highly personalized care coordinated by a team of outstanding physicians and nurses.”

A state-of-the-art electronic health record links the care team with all the data they need. Patients will also have access to that information from an in-room terminal, which they can even use to order healthy meals,   from scratch, right from their beds.

Now that the building and parking structure are finished, work begins to outfit the hospital with medical equipment, technology, and furnishings, and to hire and train staff. The 421,000-square-foot Westside Medical Center will provide a wide range of medical services, including  -gynecology and cardiology, in an attached specialty care medical office.

Kaiser Permanente is also proud of its environmental stewardship. Westside Medical Center is on track to become the first LEED Gold-certified hospital in the metro area, and one of only 39 in the world to receive the designation.
