August 14, 2012

August 13, 2012 -- Compass Oncology, the region’s largest independent oncology and hematology practice, will open a new office in Portland’s growing Gateway district on Monday, August 13. Compass Gateway will be staffed by seven of the area’s leading medical oncologists and provide improved access to quality care for newly diagnosed cancer patients in the area.

“It is has been a year of growth and change at Compass Oncology,” explains executive director, Brad Perrigo. “We began the year with our name change from Northwest Cancer Specialists to Compass Oncology. Since then, we have added five new physicians,
introduced our Breast Surgical Oncology division, provided access to a number of new clinical trials, introduced convenient Saturday hours and now opened Compass Gateway.”

The addition of Gateway brings the total number of Compass facilities in the Portland and Vancouver metro area to seven. Offices are situated strategically to enable patients to receive care close to home, with the least amount of disruption to their daily lives. “We know patients do better with treatment when they are surrounded by a good support network of family, friends and caregivers,” said Dr. Gregory Patton, practice president, Compass Oncology. “That is the essence of community-based cancer care. Gateway will help fulfill our commitment to see newly diagnosed cancer patients within 48 hours of a referral.”

Rapid appointments are a great comfort to patients at one of the most emotional times in their lives. So is access to a multidisciplinary team of experts. Compass Oncology’s 43
physician team includes experts in medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology and minimally invasive pelvic surgery, breast surgical oncology, genetic risk evaluation and lab and diagnostic services. In addition, the practice not only
has access to more clinical trials for cancer than any other facility in the area, it also offers trials that are not available anywhere else in the Portland and Vancouver area.
