Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) Adds Two New Medical Providers

October 2, 2013

October 2, 2013 -- Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) has added two new medical providers to the organization, for a total of 19 doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Wade Miller, MBA and CEO of COPA explains, “The region continues to experience growth in the volume of children who need access to quality pediatric healthcare. For almost forty years, COPA has been the region’s largest provider of healthcare for children and we continue to expand to meet the need in spite of cuts to state-sponsored insurance plans and the complexity of the current healthcare landscape. Our doctors’ commitment to the children of Central Oregon is unwavering in providing the most comprehensive and experienced pediatric care in the region.”

Mary Therese Rogers, MD FAAP is a Board Certified Pediatrician that joined COPA in September. She believes it “takes a village” to raise a child, involving both parents and the community at large. In addition to the long term relationship that Dr. Rogers develops with a family, it is the diversity of pediatrics that attracts her to this specialty. Before joining COPA, she previously practiced in Bend for three years in outpatient and hospital pediatrics. Dr. Rogers focuses on all areas of pediatrics from general wellbeing and physical development to adolescent medicine, chronic pediatric illness and mental health. Dr. Rogers completed an undergraduate degree at Fordham University in New York, followed by her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine and her pediatric residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.  While at Creighton she was a co-founder and Medical Director of the Magis Clinic, a free medical clinic located in Omaha, Nebraska. She has spent time volunteering in Kenya, India, Romania and throughout Central America. When not being a doctor, you might find her training for a race or on a backpacking trip with her fiancée and two dogs.

Hailey Garside, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) comes to COPA from the Willamette Falls Pediatric Group. She previously spent many years in Bend's medical community working as a Spanish health interpreter for St. Charles and as a nurse for Volunteers in Medicine. The addition of Hailey Garside as new Pediatric Nurse Practitioner allows COPA to better serve children when the family requires assistance with English as a second language. Garside received her undergraduate honors degree in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, and Spanish Literature from the University of Colorado, followed by graduation from the University of Washington, School of Nursing with a Masters of Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. After undergraduate school, Garside was a leader among public health volunteers with the United States Peace Corps in Ecuador.
