Cascade Comprehensive Care Chooses CEO

March 3, 2015

After a long and thorough search, Cascade Comprehensive Care (CCC) announced that its Board of Directors has selected Tayo Akins as their new chief executive officer. Mr. Akins will replace former CEO, Bill Guest who left CCC last year to join Willamette Valley Community Health. Mr. Akins brings a broad range of leadership experience in the provider, payer and investment health care arena.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of CCC, Cascade Health Alliance is a contractor with the Oregon Health Authority as a Coordinated Care Organization (CCO). Cascade Health Alliance is one of the sixteen CCOs that were certified in Oregon to begin enrolling Medicaid beneficiaries in local communities in 2013. Mr. Akins will also be the CEO of Cascade Health Alliance (CHA).

Prior to joining CCC and CHA, Mr. Akins worked as the Director of Corporate Development for AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, where he was the market entry leader for the company with a focus on targeted states which aligned with the company’s government programs growth plan.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected by the Board during this transformational growth phase of the company. This is an exciting time, especially as we look towards actively collaborating with our providers to drive the integration of physical health, behavioral health and dental health for our members that we serve. We look forward to producing and implementing solutions that have better outcomes, increase access, and lower costs which will lead to a better and healthier community,” said Akins.

As I embark on my return journey to the Pacific Northwest with Cascade Comprehensive Care, I look forward to actively working with all our stakeholders to achieve our common mission to serving the underserved and vulnerable members of our community, to make a difference and add value” said Akins.

Mr. Akins had other healthcare leadership roles at GAM Asset Management, Providence Health Plan and Tenet Healthcare. Tayo was a former runner-up for the “Man of the Year” award for the Oregon Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Grant Kennon, Chairman of the Board of CCC/CHA, said “We are happy with Akins’s selection and we are confident he will be an asset to Cascade Comprehensive Care and the community.”

Akins has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Howard University and earned his MBA in 2002 from Stanford University. He is married to a physician.
