Capitol Dental Care Joins AllCare Health Plan

July 8, 2013

July 8, 2013 – Capitol Dental Care Inc., Oregon’s largest dental contractor and AllCare, a Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) based in Grants Pass, Ore., have signed an agreement to offer dental coverage to Jackson and Josephine county residents enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan, forming one of the first CCOs in the state to include dental care. This follows a 2012 state initiative requiring healthcare providers to become CCOs and provide all three types of care – dental, mental and medical – under one umbrella. The agreement between the two companies was finalized on July 1, 2013.

Hart Laws, president of Capitol Dental Care, said, “We are pleased to join AllCare in our continued effort to provide quality dental services to Southern Oregon residents enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan.” He continued, “This partnership demonstrates that independent companies can collaborate to increase coordination and provide improved patient care. The transition will be seamless for our members, and they will continue to receive dental services through Capitol Dental Care’s network of providers.”

Doug Flow, CEO of AllCare, added, “This partnership means that we can offer our members dental care of the highest caliber. It’s a big step in delivering on the promise of the CCO model.”

To date, there are fifteen CCOs operating in the state. Research has shown that when health care providers coordinate patient care across professions and disciplines, each is better able to address health issues and prevent chronic conditions.

About Coordinated Care Organizations

Coordinated Care Organizations are state-accredited entities that deliver complete health care coverage for those eligible for the Oregon Health Plan. CCOs allow applicable health care providers – physical, behavioral and dental – to promote patients’ overall well-being by coordinating care, emphasizing prevention, and improving the management of chronic illnesses. Mental health is being integrated into plans currently and dental care is expected to be fully transferred to CCOs by July 1, 2014.
