The Breastfeeding Coalition of Oregon (BCO) is a member of the Oregon Health Equity Alliance (OHEA). We are proud to work together with OHEA to introduce a bold new 2015 legislative platform to improve the lives of people in communities across Oregon and to increase support for breastfeeding as a primary prevention strategy to reduce health inequities. OHEA and BCO believes every Oregonian should have an equal chance to achieve their full health potential, and the 33 member OHEA collaborative will be focusing on:

1. Health Care for All Children
2. Comprehensive Womens’ Health
3. Earned Sick Leave
4. Basic Health Plan
5. End Profiling
6. Ban the Box
7. Junk Food Marketing in Schools

Community members are invited to attend to learn more about the issues, and network with leaders from BCO and OHEA’s member organizations, legislative champions and ally partners. The evening will highlight opportunities to engage with BCO and OHEA, and will include refreshments and a special performance by the Augustana Jazz Choir.

OHEA made significant progress in 2013, winning policies to improve data collection, establish cultural competency training, provide in-state tuition and prenatal care for all Oregonians and advance workforce diversity through community health workers. OHEA seeks to remove barriers to health equity through public policy.

BCO works across Oregon and hand in hand with the United States Breastfeeding Committee to improve support, promotion and protection for breastfeeding as outlined in the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding. www.breastfeedingor.org
