Banks Fire District 13 purchased Utility 13 (UT13) after receiving a $28,963.00 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.  UT13 was officially placed in service following a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 7th.  The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by local Firehouse Subs Franchisees, Stephanie and Brandon Ensley, the Banks Fire Board of Directors, Fire Chief Linz, along with numerous Banks Fire volunteers and members of the Firehouse Subs team.  Banks Fire was notified that we received the grant in July of 2017 and immediately went to work designing/purchasing the best rig possible, maximizing the value of the generous grant.  Less than a year later UT13 is ready for service.  UT13 is a heavily modified off road utility vehicle capable of everything from transporting crews, transporting patients, and wild land fire firefighting in the roughest of conditions inaccessible to our other apparatus.

Established in 1954, Banks Fire provides fire and rescue services to 136 square miles.  Much of our service area is extremely rural with difficult terrain (including the Banks-Vernonia Linear Trail and Stub Stewart State Park), some areas are inaccessible by standard apparatus.  UT13 is a 4-wheel drive diesel powered Kubota UTV with modifications made by our own department as well as Cascade Fire Equipment in Medford, Oregon.  UT13 is capable of carrying multiple firefighters, has its own water tank, fire pump, hose, and other firefighting equipment.  In addition to firefighting capabilities UT13 carries a full complement of medical equipment including a stokes basket for transporting patients.  UT13 will be able to access fires and medical emergencies in areas previously inaccessible to anything but crews on foot.

The District thanks Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for their generous support that will serve not only residents but visitors to our area.  Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was established in 2005 the Foundation was established with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and education opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations.  As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization the Foundation has granted more than 28 Million Dollars to hometown heroes in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, including more than $116,000.00 right here in Oregon.  Banks Fire is very honored to be recognized by the Foundation and to receive this grant.
