Heading into the final days before the December 15 deadline for January 1 coverage, millions of Americans are coming to HealthCare.gov and signing up for Health Insurance Marketplace plans, demonstrating the strong demand for quality, affordable coverage.  As of December 10, over 4 million people had selected plans using HealthCare.gov since Open Enrollment began November 1, including 74,668 in Oregon. This includes both new consumers and consumers renewing their coverage on Healthcare.gov.

Since December 10, sign-up activity across the nation has accelerated. With the December 15th deadline for January 1 coverage approaching, the last two days – Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13 – have been two of the biggest days of any Open Enrollment, with more than 700,000 sign-ups.

“Momentum is building,” said Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.  “As we approach the December 15 deadline for consumers to get coverage that begins January 1, we’re seeing hundreds of thousands of consumers each day signing up for coverage they want and need. I encourage Oregonians who need health insurance for 2017 to join the millions already signed up and visit HealthCare.gov to check out their options by December 15. Most Marketplace consumers can find plans for less than $75 per month in premiums, and it’s easier than ever to shop and compare your options on HealthCare.gov.”

Because this year’s Open Enrollment began mid-week, today’s snapshot covers two fewer days than last year’s week 6 snapshot.  There were over 250,000 more plan selections nationally during the first 40 days of Open Enrollment this year than last year.

With only one day left before the December 15 deadline for January coverage, consumers should visit HealthCare.gov or CuidadodeSalud.gov to review their coverage options, learn about what financial assistance is available, or to sign up or re-enroll in a plan that best meets their needs.

Today’s enrollment snapshot also includes the number of people who selected a plan within top local media markets in Oregon. As of December 10,

47,909 consumers in the Portland market selected a plan
