Adventist Health Appoints New Leadership in the Northwest

June 11, 2014

Joyce Newmyer has assumed her role as president of the Northwest Region of Adventist Health and CEO of Adventist Medical Center (AMC) in Portland, Ore.  In addition to her responsibilities in Portland, she will chair the governing boards of Walla Walla General Hospital, Walla Walla, Wash., and Tillamook Regional Medical Center, Tillamook, Ore.  Newmyer will also oversee the operations of 43 medical clinics, two home care agencies and two retirement centers in the Northwest.

“We are pleased that Joyce will be leading our many health and wellness services throughout the Northwest,” said Bill Wing, COO and Executive VP of Adventist Health and chair of the AMC board in Portland. “Her passion for mission, coupled with her longstanding track record for quality clinical excellence, community outreach and service delivery makes her the right fit for the next chapter of growth at Adventist Health.”

Newmyer most recently served as president at Washington Adventist Hospital, a not-for-profit, 252-bed acute care facility located in Takoma Park, Md.  Under Newmyer’s leadership, the hospital received numerous national and state awards for patient care.

“I am excited and humbled to be selected to lead the Northwest Region of Adventist Health facilities,” states Newmyer, a California native. “The physicians, nurses and entire caregiving teams are committed to ministering to the mind, body and spirit of those who entrust their lives in our hands.  I look forward to collaborating with them to bring hope, healing and wellness to the communities we serve in Oregon and Washington.”

Newmyer holds a master’s degree in health services administration from St. Francis University in Joliet, Ill. and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Fresno, Calif.  Newmyer and her husband G.J. have four adult children and two grandchildren.

Newmyer replaces Tom Russell who now serves as corporate vice president of population health innovations for Adventist Health’s 19 hospitals.
