Advantage Dental Receives Outstanding Leadership Award

September 30, 2016

Advantage Dental was selected to receive the Oregon Health Authority’s 2016 Outstanding Leadership Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in leadership, building alliances, eliminating health disparities, and implementing creative and innovative solutions to improve population health.

Advantage Dental Services, founded in Roseburg in 1994, provides care to over 330,000 Oregon Health Plan members in 35 out of 36 counties—many of Oregon’s most vulnerable and under-served populations. “The award was made in recognition of the organization’s longstanding commitment to preventing and reducing tobacco use and tobacco-related chronic disease,” said Robin Stalcup, Tobacco Prevention and Education Program Coordinator at Adapt. In 2015, Advantage Dental adopted a 100% tobacco-free policy for all owned and operated clinic properties in Oregon, and has implemented system-wide changes to integrate tobacco screening and referral to the Oregon Tobacco Quit Line for patients who screen positive for tobacco.

“We have an opportunity and obligation to be role models for health in the community, and to talk with our patients about the risks of tobacco use for overall health,” said Cindy Shirtcliff, regional manager community liaison for Advantage Dental. “Tobacco-related diseases are often found by dentists and dental hygienists. If we can proactively address these health issues early on, we can help reduce chronic disease throughout Oregon.”

The Outstanding Leadership Award will be presented on October 5, during a ceremony at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
