Kalaheo, Hawaii – Dr. Stanwood Kanna, President of the American Board of Dental Examiners, Inc. (ADEX) announced that the ADEX Board of Directors has named Dr. Guy Shampaine of Annapolis, Maryland as the first Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Patrick D. Braatz of Portland, Oregon as the first Chief Operating Officer of ADEX.
ADEX is a national test development agency that has developed a national dental and dental hygiene licensing examination that is currently accepted for licensure for dentists and dental hygienists in 46 jurisdictions including Jamaica and is currently administered by the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA) formerly the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB), the Southern Regional Testing Agency (SRTA) and the Council of Interstate Testing (CITA).
Dr. Shampaine is a Board-Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He served on the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners for 10 years, and also served as the Dental Board’s Dental Compliance Officer as well as its Executive Director.
Dr. Shampaine has been an examiner for the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners, NERB, now the CDCA for 23 years and served as Chair from 2011 thru 2014. He has been officer and Board Member of ADEX since its inception including being the Past President.
Mr. Braatz recently announced that he is stepping down as the Executive Director of the Oregon Board of Dentistry where he has served for the past 11 years. Prior to his position in Oregon, he was the Administrator of the Division of Health in the former Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing in Madison, Wisconsin.
Mr. Braatz is a member and past President of the American Association of Dental Administrators and a member of the American Association of Dental Boards where he serves as the Chair of the “Composite” Committee and is a past member of the Executive Council. Mr. Braatz previously served for over 12 years in local elective government office. Mr. Braatz is a 1978 Wisconsin Badger Boys State Program Alum and has served on the Staff of the Department of Wisconsin American Legion Badger Boys State Program for over 36 years.
Dr. Kanna stated “ADEX is extremely gratified to have two outstanding individuals who will assume the day to day leadership of the American Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., the Board of Directors was unanimous in the choice of these two leaders.”
