AARP Oregon Director of Government Relations Rick Bennett offered the following statement in reaction to the announcement that Cover Oregon and the Oregon Health Plan have enrolled approximately 170,000 Oregonians in health care coverage.

“We’re encouraged by the latest enrollment numbers released today by Governor Kitzhaber.  While Cover Oregon continues to work on its website’s technical problems, it is important to note that over 170,000 Oregonians who were uninsured or underinsured, or were struggling to pay insurance premiums, today have access to affordable, comprehensive health care coverage.

We applaud Governor Kitzhaber, Cover Oregon and the Oregon Heath Authority for their continuing efforts to overcome barriers to ensure Oregonians have access to health care coverage and ensuring greater health security.

AARP continues to provide its members and the general public with accurate, unbiased information on the Affordable Care Act on its website http://www.healthlawanswers.aarp.org.”
