Portland, Ore., September 22, 2015 – Housecall Providers, a nonprofit primary and hospice medical provider dedicated to serving patients at home, announced the upcoming breakfast forum, “The 21st Century House Call” scheduled for October 20, 2015 from 8-9:30 AM at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
The panel with experts from Housecall Providers, Providence-Oregon, CareOregon and Portland’s Veteran’s Administration will focus on the re-emergence of the medical house call in the American healthcare system. The panel is moderated by Julia Jung, CPA, President & CEO, Kindred House Calls Texas & Divisional Vice President, Innovation and Growth for Kindred House Calls, one of the 17 sites participating in the ongoing Independence at Home national Medicare Study.
“We are excited to bring together a panel of experts to discuss what may be one of the greatest healthcare challenges in the next 20 years - how to best provide medical care to the ever-increasing homebound members in our communities,” said Terri Hobbs, executive director, Housecall Providers. “Not long ago, all health care was delivered in the home. Today, we have the opportunity to modernize the house call and bring it back in a significant way.”
By 2030, more than one in three Americans will be over 50, and according to an AARP report, nearly 80 percent of adults age 65 and older want to remain in their current residence as long as possible. The panelists agree that the best way to serve this aging public who may have one or more chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, chronic heart failure or diabetes, is in the home. The goal of the medical house call is to improve health outcomes, increase patient comfort and reduce health care costs for elderly and homebound patients.
