August 3, 2012 -- Over the past two years, Oregon’s Health Information Technology Extension Center (O-HITEC) has been working with Oregon healthcare providers to overcome the challenges of adoptingand implementing electronic health records (EHRs).This week, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that healthcare providers who partnered with Regional Extension Centers (O-HITEC) were more than twice as likely to receive an incentive payment under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

Governor Kitzhaber Signs Executive Order for Tobacco-free State Properties

August 4, 2012 -- Governor Kitzhaber signed an Executive Order that will establish most state-owned buildings and properties as tobacco-free while creating a single, statewide policy to transition state properties to tobacco-free status by 2014.“Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Oregon. The human and financial costs are simply too high,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “By promoting a healthy environment for state employees, clients and visitors, we can create an environment that reduces tobacco use and protects health.”

Kaiser Permanente Supports 20th Annual World Breastfeeding Week Through its Baby-Friendly Hospital

August 1, 2012 — It’s been 20 years since the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) launched its first World Breastfeeding Week campaign, and Kaiser Permanente has long been a strong supporter of the health benefits of breastfeeding. From prenatal care, through labor and delivery, and into the pediatric relationship, Kaiser Permanente encourages breastfeeding through education and coaching.

FamilyCare CCO Begins Serving OHP Patients

August 1, 2012 -- Today marks the first day that FamilyCare’s Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) will begin serving Oregon Health Plan (OHP) patients. FamilyCare is one of eight CCOs that were certified earlier this year to lead Oregon’s Health Transformation effort aimed at providing better care at a lower cost to patients. FamilyCare is the first CCO to operate in the tri-county area (Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas).

New Coordinated Care Organizations Approved for Oregon Health Plan

July 31, 2012 -- Five new Coordinated Care Organizations will begin serving Oregon Health Plan members in September, the Oregon Health Authority announced today.The new CCOs will provide services for OHP members in 22 counties. In total, there are 13 Coordinated Care Organizations serving 33 counties in the state. By Sept. 1 nearly 500,000 adults and children – the majority of Oregon Health Plan members – will have access to a CCO.

Jackson County Coordinated Care Organization Receives State Approval

July 31, 2012 -- The Oregon Health Authority has approved the application for Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) status for Jackson County Coordinated Care Organization, which will conduct business as Jackson Care Connect. Jackson Care Connect will begin coordinating services for Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members beginning September 1.CCOs are designed to bring together under one umbrella the providers, hospitals, health plans and social agencies that currently operate separately.
