April 1, 2012:  Health care innovation is a hot topic in the nation today and this year’s Health Care Symposium is bringing together local and regional leaders in the field to examine methods of health care innovation that both lower cost and improve patient outcomes.

Stanford CERC Director Arnold Milstein, MD stated:  “As its fifth anniversary approaches, many of the elements of the Affordable Care Act are already being tested. Our Stanford national care innovation research team is honored to collaborate with the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation to share our progress and  to highlight several of Oregon's highly complementary initiatives to improve the affordability of high quality health care .”

In two panel discussions held on April 2 from 7:00am-10:00am, health care experts will address how they are successfully putting groundbreaking models into action. The first panel, made up of Fellows from the Stanford Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC), will present a detailed look at research studies that examine how the use of better and more affordable direct care models led to improved patient care.

The second panel will present a broad sweep of health care innovation in a wider societal context. This panel will discuss the creation of an environment (including the use of Lean principles, Patient Centered Primary Care Home, social determinants of health and Alternative Payment Methodology) that allows panel one’s direct care concepts to thrive.

“To address the growing health care needs of our community, we must explore new and better ways of delivering services,” stated Gil Muñoz, CEO of Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. “Our challenge in this changing environment is to provide high quality care that is safe, effective, patient centered, timely, efficient and equitable.”

The community is invited to join in this important conversation at the Governor Hotel Heritage Ballroom. Virginia Garcia is pleased to bring together these health care innovators and leaders to present their experiences and stimulate the statewide conversation.   The following experts will share their insights with over 300 symposium attendees:
