July 25, 2012 – 2012 will mark nine years of Oregon Public Health Genius Awards, honoring outstanding Oregonians who have made significant contributions to improving the health of Oregon residents. Awards will be given in three categories:

  • Lifetime excellence
  • Emerging Leader
  • Exceptional/Group Achievement.

Oregon Public Health Institute (OPHI) is committed to recognizing and honoring outstanding Oregonians who are working or have worked to improve the health of the public. Honorees will receive awards based on careers that have demonstrated impact, originality, insight and the ability to create lasting change (i.e., the Lifetime Excellence Award) to new careers that carry the promise (i.e., the Emerging Leader Award).

We are looking for diverse nominees whose work improves health outcomes and/or improved health policy that ultimately results in healthier residents. The awards seek to encourage “out of box” approaches and recognize individuals who may not consider themselves public health practitioners, along with those who have dedicated their professional lives to improving the public’s health.

The awards are meant to acknowledge work that is “above and beyond” a person’s outstanding job performance-recognizing action that is bold, risk-taking and persistent in forging collaborative solutions to public health issues.

Awards are also intended to honor those whose work embodies dedication, compassion and commitment to improving the public’s health and serving as a role model to others striving toward these high standards of excellence. We recognize and celebrate work effecting individual and community health outcomes, often shaping health policy in government and private enterprises.

Awards will be presented at the annual Billi Odegaard public health gala awards luncheon on Friday, October 19, 2012.

Nominations from every part of Oregon are encouraged. An independent committee will select the recipients of the 2012 Public Health Genius Awards. All nominees will be notified of the committee’s decision in September 2012.

Full nomination criteria are available at www.orphi.org.
